As a Knowledge Group Leader (KGL) you will lead the knowledge group Steelmaking and Casting (SMC), which currently has 6 fte. After several internal reorganisations in R&D this knowledge group was newly established in 2016. The medium term strategic plan of the ISC department is to grow this knowledge group to 10 fte in the coming years.
You need to ensure work in the knowledge group is carried out safely, timely and to a high quality. Continuous development of facilities and skills is required to ensure the group is able to meet the ever increasing demands. You will work in close collaboration with the other KGs in ISC but also with other R&D departments, Centre of Expertise, business stakeholders and external partners to understand the latest state-of-the-art developments.

The department of Ironmaking, Steelmaking and Casting (ISC) is working on the development of new or improved processes for the production of high quality hot metal and cast products at low costs, including the environmental and recycling aspects of the core processes of iron and steel making. The ISC expertise covers the entire “Heavy End” of integrated steelmaking, from raw materials to cast products. The department has five knowledge groups, all based in IJmuiden Technology Centre. The HIsarna Pilot Plant is also operating under responsibility of the ISC department.
The department deploys a wide range of experimental / pilot facilities and advanced modelling & measurements tools to support R&D in coke making, ferrous agglomeration, blast furnace ironmaking, refractories, steelmaking, and continuous casting. The ISC department is heavily involved in strategic R&D in the fields of Zero CO2 and Circular Economy. Strategic R&D projects contribute more than 30% to the portfolio. The department maintains a strong network with key stakeholders in the business, universities, research institutes and technology providers.
As Knowledge Group Leader you will be part of the management team of the department. In this team you are expected to contribute to the success of the department and continuously find opportunities for improvement and contributing to realise these.
