You will roll out asset management and maintenance strategy over hundreds of steel making assets in a European steel manufacturer. 

What's your job?

Within this role, as Maintenance improvement manager you will take care of development and deployment of our European maintenance strategy. This means stimulating, sharing and learning across the company using best practices. This includes deployment of policies on asset integrity to safeguard the license to operate of Tata Steel. All this to support implementation of our Journey to Reliability approach. You will cooperate with colleagues within the central team, but even more with colleagues in all manufacturing sites of Tata Steel in Europe. 


You will perform analysis on the different Company Asset Management Framework (CAMF) related processes to develop plans how these can be improved within the Journey to Reliability program. For some of the processes within this framework you act as a Subject Matter Expert. You develop the process, define metrics and educate people if needed. You will join expertise groups on subjects like Preventive Maintenance, Strategic Asset Management Plans and Condition Based Maintenance and you will actively promote the development and application of modern maintenance and asset management.


The role involves many international contacts with managers and experts from all Hubs and various functions. Some external contacts including benchmarking will also be part of the job. The location where you will be based is either in Port Talbot, South Wales or IJmuiden, The Netherlands.

Is this you?

Applicants for this role will be expected to be educated to degree level with significant engineering experience and knowledge. We expect you to have the following attributes and knowledge:

  • Experience and knowledge in maintenance, asset management and improvement methods, including new developments
  • Understanding of Asset Management Systems based on ISO55000
  • Structured, organised, thorough and consistent
  • Experienced in assessing or auditing (maintenance) work processes
  • Excellent communicator, ability to act as a respected advisor / consultant engineer, cooperating with various organizational layers
  • Ability to stimulate Sharing & Learning
  • Being proactive in standardization and document management
  • Eagerness to work in an international environment, including some traveling
  • Organisational sensitivity
  • Ability to give courses in the area of your expertise.

The Centre of Expertise (CoE) Engineering of Tata Steel in Europe is an international team centred around the delivery of the Company Asset Management Framework (CAMF) In-Use. The In-Use part of the framework is primarily related to Maintenance. The activities contain development and improvement of maintenance processes, performing assessments, TSE-wide reporting and supporting of the TSE engineering governance. All this is based on Sharing and Learning within the Engineering Community of TSE. The CoE Engineering facilitates cooperation, supports improvement projects and sets the standard, aimed at improving the reliability of the assets of Tata Steel in Europe which is crucial to the success the business.
