As Senior Support Engineer you know what it takes to be the ‘eyes and ears’ for our customers regarding their product- and process improvements.

What's your job?

In this role you are responsible for giving technical advice to automotive customers, notably about the interaction between our (Tata Steel) products and their (customer) processes. In addition, you are responsible for expressing the ‘Voice of the customer’ to the manufacturing hubs, thereby directly influencing the outcome of technical customer satisfaction. 

 

Your customers are existing customers like Tesla, with whom Tata Steel has forged long term commitments. In order to achieve the goals set by various stakeholders such as Tata Steel's sales & marketing department, Tata Steel’s manufacturing hubs and automotive customers, you will be regularly meeting with the Tata Steel departments involved and traveling to customers on a frequent basis. 

 

In order to meet customer’s goals we need to stretch our capabilities and performance. Customers rate us at quality against the general standards of the automotive industry. You will not only focus on our OEM’s, but increasingly on suppliers in the complete supply chain including Tier1’s and Steel Service Centers. 

 

Next to above described responsibilities, you are (the):

  • Account team member responsible for all quality issues and the implementation and trials of new developed products at the customer.
  • Tata Steel’s eyes and ears at your customer regarding all matters regarding technical services and improvements both now and longer term.
  • Responsible for product approval and new product release with regard to new products and manufacturing processes for your accounts. 
  • In contact with your customer on a frequent basis, and in case of urgency you are expected to travel to the customer on the spot. 
  • Responsible for a smooth complaint handling and leading problem solving activities together with the manufacturing hubs.
  • Capable of determining whether the root cause of quality issues originate at the customer’s process or at the steel production process. For both cases, you are capable of supporting the customer in eliminating the problem, focusing on processing of Tata Steel products at the customer’s shop floor.
  • Able to determine how to assist the customer from a technical point of view, to become better in their processes.

Furthermore you are required to advise on product improvements, striving to continuously match customer expectations with an improved product performance as well as advising our sales & marketing colleagues about how improvements in product mix may be made to increase technical customer satisfaction. 

In future you could develop towards a Lead engineer position. 

Is this you?

The role of Senior Support Engineer is of enormous strategic value in our organisation, which is why we are looking for a professional with multidisciplinary skills who has:

  • experience or strong affinity in/ with the automotive industry.
  • a strong a strong quality mindset, combined with an affinity for commerce.
  • a result driven, pro-active approach and are comfortable taking the initiative.
  • flexible and able to quickly learn about customers’ processes and implement these learnings in our own processes, and vice versa.
  • a technical background or are willing to develop your technical skills.
  • preferably have at Bachelors or Masters level in Metallurgy, Material Science or another strong technical equivalent.
  • your continuous improvement mindset comes naturally to you.
  • you are fluent in English and German. Any other European language would be a plus.

Our ambition is to service the customer in their own language to maximise the intimacy and understanding of their requirements. The team consists of professionals with different cultural backgrounds. Most of us are based in Ijmuiden, but a fair share is based in different countries across Europe such as France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, UK and Turkey. In the end we all service many of the same automotive customers who are also present in these countries. The cooperation between us can be described as warm, personal and high performing. We are always willing to help each other to do our best for our customers and our company. It is very rewarding work, and fun to do. 

 

Department
Customer Technical Services (CTS) is part of the larger Technical department on the IJmuiden site. CTS is responsible for product quality at the customer and for technical services towards the customer. CTS represents the manufacturing hubs at the customer, and the customer at the manufacturing hubs. We work in close cooperation with other departments such as Commercial, Technical, R&D, Customer Services and Logistics and operates on a global level. Intensive cooperation via multidisciplinary account teams ensures and aligns the total Tata Steel customer experience.
